Does Rogaine® or Propecia® work for women?

Pregnant women should NOT use Propecia

It is strongly recommended that Propecia and Avodart not be used by pregnant women or children.

Studies have found that both of these drugs can cause birth defects in fetuses. These birth defects can occur when large quantities of either drug are absorbed into the body during of fetal development.

Physicians strongly advise pregnant women to not even handle Propecia or Avodart tablets, since doing so may lead to birth defects in the unborn fetus. To date, however, there hasn't been one case reported where there were birth defects that were caused by the handling of these tablets.

In men, neither Propecia nor Rogaine has been shown to regrow hair in the frontal area. For reasons not yet understood, these hair loss drugs drugs only regrow hair in the back of the crown area of the scalp. Hair transplant surgery is the only treatment that has been successful in permanently restoring hair that was lost in the frontal hairline area.
